Istat: inflation falls again in April, reaching 0.9%

According to preliminary estimates, in the month of April 2024 the national consumer price index for the entire community (NIC), including tobacco, increases by 0.2% on a monthly basis and by 0.9% on an annual basis (from +1.2% in the previous month ).

Inflation falls again in April

Therefore, in April, according to preliminary estimates, inflation will fall again, reaching 0.9%. The slight deceleration, explains Istat, is mostly affected by the trend in prices of non-regulated energy goods (-13.9% from -10.3% in March) and transport-related services (+2.9% from + 4.5%). Food prices also slowed slightly (+2.6% from +2.7%).

The shopping cart continues to descend

On the other hand, the prices of regulated energy goods show a strong trend recovery (+0.8% from -13.8%), despite the economic decline (-8.2%). The dynamics of the “shopping cart” prices on an annual basis also continued its decline in April (+2.4% from +2.6%), while underlying inflation stood at +2.2% (from +2.3%).

After the pause in February, inflation had started to rise again in March. According to preliminary estimates from Istat, the national consumer price index for the entire community (NIC), including tobacco, had increased by 0.1% on a monthly basis and by 1.3% on an annual basis (from +0.8% in the previous month).
