M Night Shyamalan’s Trap was purchased by Warner Bros in early 2023, and now that the film is ready to hit theaters it was the focus of the studio’s presentation at CinemaCon 2024.
Thanks to the description that emerged from the footage presented during the event, they emerged the first sensational details of the Trap plot, which has remained secret until now: and obviously, in true Shyamalan style, the crowd of exhibitors who attended CinemaCon in Las Vegas found themselves faced with yet another ‘Shyamalan-Twist’.
The clip screened by Warner Bros at CinemaCon – it is not clear whether a preview scene or a real trailer – reveals the official plot of Trap: the film follows the protagonist Josh Hartnett who accompanies his daughter to a concert, but when he leaves her alone to go to the bathroom we realize that the event is packed with police, both in uniform and in plain clothes hidden among the audience . He soon discovers that the concert is a trap to frame a mysterious serial killer who is presumed to be hidden in the crowd (hence the title, Trap) but the twist is that, well…the serial killer is Josh Hartnett: the promotional film ends with the protagonist’s phone, whose screen shows us the victim held hostage, and Josh Hartnett letting out a creepy maniac laugh.
