The trilogy on Batman by Christopher Nolan is one of the most appreciated and acclaimed film adaptations of the DC character, with Christian Bale in the role of Bruce Wayne and protagonist in the three films directed by the British director. However, according to his brother Jonathan Nolan, the trilogy risked remaining incomplete.
Christopher Nolan managed to revive Batman at the cinema thanks to the trilogy after the critical flop of Joel Schumacher’s two previous films. But after Batman Begins, Nolan was undecided whether to continue with The Dark Knight, as told by Jonathan Nolan, author of a famous Batman joke that still torments his brother.
“I think Chris was partly reluctant to do it [Il cavaliere oscuro]. Honestly, he was undecided whether to make another Batman. I didn’t think he wanted to repeat himself. I think he was very satisfied with the film he had made. He was very proud of Batman Begins. I was too but from my point of view I was thinking ‘We’ve built this sports car, wouldn’t you want to take it for a race?’. It was clear to me that Chris was on the fence about making another film. So, it was kind of my job to prove that it was worth it.”.
Apparently, Jonathan Nolan did a great job, convincing his brother that continuing the Batman saga was the best solution. The Dark Knight, the second chapter of the trilogy, is considered one of the greatest films in Nolan’s career and absolutely one of the most important cinematic adaptations linked to a comic book character.
