What is The Spider Within about? As the next film in the Sony Pictures saga anticipates Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse? There’s been a lot of talk these days about the new official short film about Miles Morales, here’s everything you need to know.
The film is set in the Spider-Verse saga and is absolutely canon with what was seen in the previous films. However, contrary to what one might think, The Spider Within is NOT a sequel to Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse: the project, in fact, was born as a prequel to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the second episode of the saga which arrived in cinemas around the world in 2023, and is set some time after the events of Spider-Man: The New Spider-Verse universe, the first episode of the franchise released in 2018. It is no coincidence that The Spider Within was already published last year, some time after the release of Across the Spider-Verse, but in recent days it has officially arrived online.
The Spider Within was in fact created for the new focused lesson plan about mental health from the Kevin Love Fund, “The Hero Within”, which invites students to tell their own story through the lens of mental health awareness. In the thriller film, titled The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story, Miles Morales struggles to balance his responsibilities as a teenager, friend and student while acting as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man of Brooklyn. After a particularly challenging day living with these pressures, Miles experiences a panic attack which forces him to face the manifestations of his anxiety and to learn that asking for help can be an act as courageous as protecting his city from evil.
