Martina was an angel who flew to heaven too early, at just 21 years old. Just over a month after her untimely death, the pain for her loved ones is a silent and constant companion, a constant torment that scourges hearts torn by the weight of her absence. Yet there were those who, in an unworthy, repugnant way, tried to profit from this enormous tragedy that struck the community of Corte Franca. A scam that was reported by the Chiari family itself, linked to a fake charity event invented for the sole purpose of extorting money.
Fraudsters profit from the death of 21-year-old Martina Chiari
It happened on Thursday 25 April, when a poster created using Marina Chiari’s obituary began circulating in some football and oratory groups (Whatsapp and Facebook). News which, within a few hours, reached the 21-year-old’s family, contacted by telephone by some parents who noticed some oddities in the alleged charity initiative organized in memory of the young woman.
“We took action to understand what was happening, given that we knew nothing about this initiative and, as soon as we found the image of the poster, we understood that the obituary taken from the funeral home website had been used, crudely modified while maintaining the original setting and replacing some parts”,
explained Martina’s sister.
“Don’t give money”, the family denounces
The Chiari family immediately rushed to deny the veracity of this initiative and to inform parents and fellow citizens that it was a scam, also asking the mayor. After numerous calls it emerged that Unknown people showed up at various venues in the area to raise funds for the alleged charity event.
“I can only say that the already immense pain of missing Martina has mixed with anger“,
added the sister.
The total lack of respect towards those who today struggle to continue living without Martina is unacceptable. Unacceptable that anyone dared tarnish the memory of a girl that, due to the battle with the disease she had been diagnosed with three years earlier, she had had to become a woman too quickly. She is a pure and wonderful soul who fought like a warrior, without ever complaining, facing her obstacles with a smile that instilled courage in those around her.
“Our concern is to inform you that nothing has been organized on our part. We ask anyone who knows anything or has donated money to someone to contact the competent authorities as soon as possible.”
An action that the Chiari family also intends to take to defend in Martina’s memory.
The recommendation
More generally, the recommendation is to always be careful and inform yourself before falling into the network of unscrupulous scammers, checking for example that the initiatives are promoted by serious associations and/or sponsored by the Municipality or other bodies and making careful inquiries about the destination of the funds raised.
