VALLE D’AOSTA – Liguria is ready to provide aid to the Aosta Valley and Piedmont affected by the flood which affected part of the North West. A mobile column is ready to leave from Liguria in case the intervention is requested by the central headquarters, as confirmed to Primocanale by the Councilor for Civil Protection of the Liguria Region Giacomo Giampedrone.
“In those territories 2 thousand millimeters of water fell in 24 hours, to give you an idea that same quantity of water fell in us in a month in 2019, we are talking about quantities that are difficult to bear – explains Giampedrone -. Faced with these events it is necessary to put in place an impressive civil protection system. This success makes us understand the importance of having civil protection systems always ready. Another issue to be addressed concerns the resources that arrive following these events: resources that are needed to restore the damage but also to make the territory safe.”
Even some tourists from Genoa found themselves in the middle of the flood like Cinzia Consonni who told of the evacuation operations from the hotel where she was on holiday by helicopter (Read here).
The budget is serious: Cogne is isolated; flooding in the center of Cervinia. Landslides and mudslides also in Piedmont, where damage to bridges, some isolated valleys and inhabitants evacuated were reported. About thirty hikers remained stuck in the shelters at the foot of Monte Rosa. Significant damage also occurred on the Valnontey municipal road, where both the electricity grid and the aqueduct were out of order. Due to the flood wave of the Dora Baltea there were some floods. In Montjovet, two families were evacuated from their homes and went up to the upper floors; in Issogne the river flooded between the localities of Favà and Fleuran and some inhabitants were forced to climb to the upper floors. Currently, state road 26 is closed at times in Bard, Donnas and Champdepraz and reopening is being considered. There are also many Ligurian tourists present in the affected areas.
