The Life Support ship of the Italian NGO arrived at the port of Livorno this morning, Sunday 30 June Emergency. There were on board 47 people rescued in the central Mediterranean. The rescue operation, which ended on Wednesday 26 June around 3.30 pm, in international waters in the Libyan SAR area.
Rescued at sea from a very difficult situation
The 47 castaways, of which 39 men, 3 women and 5 unaccompanied minorsthey were in a critical situation: everyone crowded onto a 6 meter dinghy, without life jackets. Once the intervention was concluded, the Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) assigned Life Support the city of Labronia as the port of disembarkation.
Before moving to Piedmont, visits and identification
The ship arrived this morning and docked at Calata Carrara, dock 75, in front of the maritime station where the civil protection first reception service has been set up on the first floor.health checks of the doctors, while the immigration police will be entrusted with the subsequent identification. At the end of these operations, the migrants will be transferred to reception centers in Piedmont.
Life Support’s record numbers
The one carried out in Libyan waters before the transfer to the Tuscan port was the thirty-first rescue carried out by Life Support in 20 different missions. Active since December 2022 in the central Mediterranean, the Emergency search and rescue vessel saved a total of 1,678 people.
