Taranto, revolution at Kyma Mobility: electronic ticket office inaugurated

The new electronic ticketing system Go Kyma by Kyma Mobilità arrives, accompanied by the claim “Be, let’s go”, where Be stands for electronic ticketing. The important innovation was presented, with the new pricing and electronic tickets of Kyma Mobilità, at Palazzo di Città by the mayor Rinaldo Melucci, by the president of Kyma Mobilità Daniele D’Ambrosio, by the councilor for Mobility Edmondo Ruggiero and by his colleague to Human Resources Michele Mazzariello.

The mayor’s commitment

«For years we have been engaged in the project aimed at finally providing Taranto with modern and sustainable mobility at the service of citizens, capable of quickly connecting and connecting the neighborhoods of a city which, due to its morphological conformation and political choices of the past, is particularly extensive », said the mayor.
«We have acquired 80 hybrid buses and five electric buses, renewing over half of the Kyma Mobilità fleet which is now one of the youngest in Italy. With the electronic ticketing that we present today we take another step forward in this project of modernization of local public transport, a path that will be completed with the BRT network (electric buses, ed.) which places us among the first and most important Italian cities to leverage this transport model.”
The basic ticket provided by the new tariff allows the passenger to easily change between multiple buses and, in the near future, to also use the BRT.

Subscriptions do not change

«We have not increased the cost of season tickets by reducing the price of those for workers, precisely to encourage the use of public transport. We must improve the travel times of buses which too often, I regret to say, are penalized by sometimes chaotic vehicular traffic due to unorthodox stops and parking. Just as efforts must be made to reduce the phenomenon of vandalism against buses and shelters. The administration’s objective is to build a better Taranto together with the vast majority of citizens.” President D’Ambrosio explained that «based on the most advanced technologies in the sector, “GoKyma” will revolutionize the current organization of public transport in Taranto, simplifying and standardizing travel documents, validation systems and control tools, as well as further expanding the current sales channels.”

Controversy over the cost of the ticket

Councilor Mazzariello instead denounced «the specious controversies of the last few hours regarding the abolition of the one-euro note. Clarity must be made: the Region has established that the minimum single fare ticket fare to be applied in the provincial capitals of Puglia must be €1.20, an obligation that all Puglia public transport companies must respect. Hence the strategic choice, also in view of the BRT, to focus on the 90-minute ticket, already available for ten years at 1.30 euros, leaving it unchanged without increases. If the citizen purchases the red carnet ticket for 10 journeys lasting 90 minutes which costs 11 euros, also rechargeable, each single journey costs 1.10 euros”. For councilor Ruggiero “the objective is to increase the number of citizens who use public transport, decongesting traffic, particularly in the Umberto area”. QR code and chip readers have been installed on all buses to validate tickets and read cards. There will also be a POS to pay on board.
