About a month ago we wrote the ten questions we would like to ask the president of Taranto Massimo Giove. We certainly didn’t expect that he would call us or even answer us, and so we take advantage of the opportunity to see if he succeeded in his latest statements (or will succeed, given that he declared that he will speak once a month, as if the doctor had ordered it…) to satisfy the curiosity of the fans. These are (and remain) the questions of the Corriere di Taranto al President Massimo Giovewe will update with responses as they come in.
What is the current economic situation of Taranto FC 1927?
From an interview with Antenna Sud: “The times of the old billionaires, who took their fortunes and threw them into football, no longer exist. FIFA requires that clubs must be sustainable, clubs live off earnings, sponsorships, valuations, playing time and capital gains. The more entries there are, the more the club has the opportunity to cash in. Covisoc, if someone bites off more than they can chew, blocks you and you have to capitalize: there are budget and stability criteria to respect. It is a very complex situation. Today we have to think about keeping Taranto in balance. As long as I am here, I will keep football in Taranto. I will not bite off more than I can chew. The city’s favorite team is struggling to go around and look for sponsorships”
However, we would also like to point out an email, distributed during a Facebook broadcast (“The poison in the queue”), in which the CEO of Eye Sport, the former technical sponsor of Taranto, makes it clear the company’s modus operandi towards them. And it certainly doesn’t create an idyllic picture… Are you sure that the company doesn’t behave like this with other suppliers too?
Can the current ownership cope with enrollment in the next Serie C championship on its own?
Taranto has regularly registered for the next championship.
Given the financial difficulties that emerged from the defense briefs of the appeal (later rejected) against the four-point penalty, have you ever considered the possibility of putting the company up for sale?
From an interview with Antenna Sud: “The only stain I carry with me from last season is the four penalty points, even if I consider the sanction unfair. We had demonstrated, in the League, that the damage from the fire that occurred in the match against Foggia was of considerable magnitude. Despite an in-depth study, in which we had brought all the situations regarding the lost earnings and the cancellations of sponsorships, we were penalized. Then there was no talk of a missed payment but of a delayed payment”
In reality, the judges, at all levels of judgment, have said something completely different.:
– Taranto did not, within the regulatory deadlines, pay IRPEF and INPS (and there is no proof of “partial payment” as the company claimed);
– That the Taranto – Foggia fire is irrelevant to the trial. First of all because Taranto could have faced a costly financing of the members; the judge also wonders why Taranto played behind closed doors against Cerignola (even if on a neutral field, it could have opened to the public and therefore made money).
The in-depth study on losses resulting from lost sponsors to which Jupiter refers does not exist: in fact the court states that it was unable to ascertain the losses claimed by Taranto since the company does not specify whether the sums also included the subscriber share already received. Ditto for the missing sponsorships, not calculated.
Still on the subject of the penalization issue, why was a lie told (telematic problems), when would it have been more honest to admit the difficulties and publicly ask for help and understanding at a time when you would certainly have received them?

What type of championship will Taranto want or be able to have in the 2024/25 season?

In view of the Mediterranean Games, are you thinking of participating with your companies in the tenders that will be announced shortly for the renovation of the sports facilities involved in the Masterplan and therefore also of the Iacovone stadium?

In April 2022, the Taranto club was awarded the concession for the municipal stadium by the Municipality of Faggiano; why did the redevelopment work never begin? Is there still interest in making it available as a training ground for both the first team and the youth sector?

What role did Mr. Vittorio Galigani have in the company’s management in the past season? Why was his departure communicated at the beginning when in practice he never left?

However, we propose again the email from Eye Sport, in the passages in which it refers to Galigani: “waiting for me instead of Giove or his daughter Alessandra was Mr. Galigani with whom I had never before discussed, closed agreements and for whom the story speak in support. I don’t waste time talking but first an agreement was reached which after two days was first denied and then disregarded, I believe that Galigani had other interests and I don’t understand how a company can allow such a delicate topic to be dealt with by a person not in its staff and evidently without any decision-making power even if personally I think that Galigani had other obvious interests.”
In October 2023, the renewal of the contract of goalkeeper Gianmarco Vannucchi, until 06.30.2026, was officially announced: why was it never deposited? Is it true that you refused to meet the doorman’s agent?

With reference to the youth sector: from 2017 to today, the results have been far from brilliant, having changed management almost every season. Why did he never seriously invest in the academy that could have developed local footballers, thus avoiding having to go and get them elsewhere?
