Viareggio, 29 June 2024 – “The victims of the Viareggio massacre are martyrs because they testify that something that should not have happened”. This is what the Archbishop of Viareggio says. Lucca Paolo Giulietti speaking at the mass in memory of those who died in the railway disaster fifteen years ago.

In the morning, the memorial mass took place in the church of the Misericordia cemetery in Viareggio, where most of the victims are buried.

“Fifteen years have passed but the city always rallies around the families of the victims – says the deputy mayor Walter Alberici – A wound has remained in the city. We gather around the family. It is important to continue the issue of safety, the Italian railway system is obsolete”.
