The 18-month-old baby who fell yesterday from the fourth floor of an apartment building on the outskirts of Pavia did not make it. He died last night after being hospitalized in very serious conditions at the San Matteo Polyclinic. The little boy was taken to the operating room for a desperate operation, but there was nothing that could be done. According to initial findings, it was an accident. The child fell from the balcony of one of two twin buildings. Having fallen in the internal courtyard, he was immediately rescued and rushed to hospital, before being transferred to the intensive care unit.
It fell 14 meters
The child lived with his family in a suburban area of Pavia, near Viale Lodi. In the fall, after a flight of approximately 14 metres, he suffered a head injury, a lung injury and several fractures. The family is of Congolese origins. Already yesterday evening, some representatives of the African country’s community present in Pavia rallied around the child’s family.
Dynamics to be clarified
The police investigations are continuing to shed light on the causes of the tragedy. The most likely hypothesis seems to be that of an accident. The child was on the balcony, while the mother was busy at home doing some housework. The child could have climbed onto an air conditioning unit, reaching such a height that he leaned over the balcony until he lost his balance and fell into the void.
