REGGIO – Three meetings on Thursday for the Don Orione Rest Home

On Thursday, July 4, in Reggio, three meetings will be held, organized by some relatives of the guests of the Casa di Riposo Don Orione di Sant’Antonio – Collina degli Angeli, regarding the serious situation that the facility is experiencing. The first is at 10:30 with the trade unions, and in the afternoon, first with the staff, and then, at 17:00 with the guests, families and guardians.

«Once again – we read in a note – in our city what works is destroyed, and once again it is the most fragile who pay the high price. This time it is the turn of the Don Orione retirement home, located in the Sant’Antonio – Collina degli Angeli district. Anyone who has had the opportunity to visit it cannot fail to recognize that it is a structure of excellence both from a logistical and human resources point of view. Already last year the structure implemented a strong reduction in the number of guests and staff. On that occasion we both requested a formal meeting with the Prefect of Reggio Calabria and involved the press, unfortunately without having the desired effects. We therefore had to helplessly watch the exodus of some of the guests and nursing staff.”

«We have reason to fear – continues the note – that the structure will be definitively closed and we are ready to fight to ensure that this does not happen. We believe that the problem is not only of the 25 guests and families, but of the entire city which, already poor in social and health services, will suffer further serious impoverishment. This is why we hope for the intervention of the relevant authorities, associations, the press and all citizens. (rrc)
