Sustained economic growth over the next three years despite global challenges

The Regional Economy and Finance Document (Defr) 2025-2027, approved today at Palazzo d’Orlèans, confirms a positive trend for the Sicilian GDP, albeit at a slower pace. The President of the Region, Renato Schifani, has outlined a prospect of moderate but constant growth for the next few years, in line with the national economic context.

According to forecasts, after an increase of 0.7% in 2024, Sicily’s GDP is expected to grow by 1.1% in 2025, 0.9% in 2026 and 0.8% in 2027. This improvement is supported by significant regional, national and European investments, as well as by the Sicilian government’s targeted policies to support businesses and accelerate public spending.

Schifani stressed the importance of strengthening infrastructure and supporting agriculture, a vital sector despite the current difficulties. The government also aims to continue the process of regional finances recovery, which has already begun successfully thanks to the increase in tax revenues and targeted interventions in the production sector.

The Defr also includes a plan to strengthen regional administration through recruitment schemes and streamlining procedures, designed to improve the efficiency and operational capacity of the government apparatus.

This strategic framework, defined in accordance with the latest analyses of the regional economy, confirms the positive direction taken to ensure sustainable and long-lasting development of Sicily in the coming years.
