The Azienda Metropolitana Trasporti e Sosta Catania SpA, in close collaboration with the Municipality of Catania, continues its path of renewal and strengthening, both in terms of human resources and the vehicles and technologies available. This morning, 29 new traffic assistants and 8 drivers from the removal sector, recently hired by AMTS to improve parking management in the Etna capital, were officially presented to the press and citizens. The presentation took place at the company’s historic headquarters, the “R1” garage in via Plebiscito, in the presence of the sole director of AMTS, Giacomo Bellavia, of the managers Antonio Condorelli and Rosario Laudani, and of the manager of the parking and commercial sector, Gaetano Garufo. During the event, Bellavia highlighted the new investments made in collaboration with the municipal administration. In addition to the new human resources, 6 new tow trucks for car removal, 20 new scooters for AMTS staff and 5 new street control devices for the Company’s vehicles were presented. “This further investment, made in synergy with the Municipality of Catania, allows the Company to manage the parking sector in the city in a more technological way and with new operational units,” declared Giacomo Bellavia. “Hiring, carried out very quickly and based only on qualifications, with maximum transparency, makes Catania a national model to follow. With strengthened staff and new technological means, we will be able to make an important contribution to the municipal administration and the local police, not only for the management of parking on the blue lines, but also to combat the infringements provided for by article 12 bis of the Highway Code , such as parking on pedestrian crossings or in double rows. These new transport investments are in addition to those already made, such as the smart parking meters installed in the city’s car parks.” AMTS staff, therefore, will be able to move around with two-wheeled vehicles to control parking in Catania, while vehicles equipped with street control will benefit from latest generation electronic instruments, connected to the Company’s general database, allowing rapid verification of correctness of the stop. Finally, this strengthening will contribute to re-establishing criteria of legality in the Etna capital and to promoting peaceful coexistence between citizens, tourists, private vehicles and public transport. This is part of the Smart Park project, created with EU Pon Metro funds and the contribution of the Community Policies of the Municipality of Catania, which thanks to intelligent parking meters allows citizens to pay for parking more quickly and the Company to verify its correctness in time short.
