The Council of Ministers, in the meeting of 20 June 2024, resolved to appoint Engineer Marisa Cesario as General Manager of the National Corps, assigning her to perform the functions of Regional Director of the Fire Brigade, Public Rescue and Civil Defense of the Umbria Region, effective from 1 July 2024.
With Cesario’s farewell, engineer Marco Frezza takes on the role of Acting Commander of Florence, in addition to being the current Regional Director of Tuscany.
“In leaving the province of Florence to take up another assignment entrusted to me, grateful for the spirit that I found and that I tried to share – declares the former Florentine commander -, I would like to extend, with these few but heartfelt lines, a respectful greeting to all the people that I have had the fortune to know, or at least to meet, in this albeit short period of my stay. I have appreciated the trust that citizens have in the Florentine firefighters; a confirmation of the appreciation that our work receives among the people. I am certain that my successor – concludes Marisa Cesario -, engineer Marco Frezza currently Regional Director of Tuscany, will be able to appreciate and further enhance this model of industriousness”.
Cesario, who arrived in via La Farina in December 2022, was the first woman to lead the Florence Fire Department. She joined the fire department in 1990 and worked at the Genoa and Catanzaro commands and, before Florence, she directed those of Como, Cosenza, Taranto, Modena and Bari.
He faced numerous emergencies during his activism, such as the G8 in Genoa.
And even in his Florentine experience he put his expertise at the service of the city, not least in the tragedy of the construction site on Via Mariti which saw the firefighters engaged for days and days in the search for bodies and in freezing the state of the places for the purposes of the investigation.
