Mega: «Too many disputes, Bardi appoints the council»

The appeal of the secretary of the CGIL Mega who urges governor Bardi on the urgent appointment of the council

Enough with the postponements, “let the regional council be appointed now”. Thus the general secretary of the CGIL Basilicata, Fernando Mega, in a note, explaining that «yet another postponement of the Regional Council after the defeat of the centre-right in the Municipality of Potenza and the delays in the appointment of the regional council of Basilicata by the president Vito Bardi, two months after the vote, is yet another slap in the face to all the citizens of Lucania which the regional government once again makes a mockery of. This, despite the many ongoing problems and the many open disputes, starting from that of the industrial area of Melfi”.

Mega adds: «The delays in the reception of foreign seasonal workers, the continuous accidents and deaths at work, the health issue which – having escaped the risk of official commissionership, at least according to the institutional communication of the Region – requires an urgent discussion with the trade unions and the social partners especially in the face of the lack of agreement with the Puglia Region, the banking desertification, the tender for local public transport, care for the elderly and the law on non-self-sufficiency which remains unapplied. All issues – underlines the CGIL secretary – remained pending or completed unilaterally by this centre-right government without the proper involvement not only of the highest regional forum but also of the trade unions, totally ignoring the interests of the workers.

Added to this are aspects of a more general nature, such as depopulation and differentiated autonomy, which require joint actions and constant dialogue. The demonstration called on Tuesday in Potenza against the Calderoli law with committees, associations, students and parties in front of the council building could have been an opportunity to send a signal and open up to discussion. And instead President Bardi was once again absent, evidently busy discussing which seats to assign to whom after the reconquest of the regional capital by the centre-left”.

Mega then concludes: «We launch a real appeal to the president of the Region, “president of all Lucanians” as he often said during the election campaign. Times are tough. The national and international context is difficult. We are already paying the price of two wars and a pandemic that have brought thousands of workers and businesses to their knees. Natural disasters then do the rest. The drought of recent days which risks compromising our agriculture is just the latest example of this. So hurry up. Appoint the board now. We need flesh and blood interlocutors with whom we can interface, with the hope that it will be in a closer and more profitable way than in the last legislature.”
