Former Formula 1 driver Timo Glock has had a career full of ups and downs. You will be surprised by the choice of him.
The winner of the GP2 championship, in 2007, began to chew the circus environment already in 2004. Twenty years ago Jordan still had a role on the grid. Timo Glock began in role as test driver for Eddie Jordan’s teammaking his debut in the top Motorsport category at the Canadian Grand Prix, replacing Giorgio Pantano.
He finished eleventh in Montreal, but thanks to the disqualification of the Williams and Toyota drivers, he advanced to seventh place. BMW Sauber set its sights on the German driver in 2007, hiring him as a test driver. After the triumph in the F1 preparatory series, Toyota offered him a starting contractalongside the expert Jarno Trulli.
He achieved a fourth place in Canada and a sensational second place in Hungary. He proved to have talent, but unfortunately he found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time during the last round of the 2008 World Championship. Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton had challenged each other point for point until the last act in Interlagos. The Brazilian from Ferrari won his home race, but on the last lap Hamilton, surprisingly, he recovered until he overtook Glock and celebrate his first world championship crown in F1.
The new life of Timo Glock
The conditions of the Brazilian asphalt, in that sensational epilogue of the 2008 championship, were terrible. The German’s Toyota couldn’t stay on the road in the rain, while the Anglo-Caribbean from McLaren made a desperate comeback, mocking the Ferrari driver in the final. For the fans of the Cavallino Glock, finishing sixth, behind Hamilton, he did Felipe Massa a great injustice.
After his experiences with Toyota, Virgin and Marussia, Glock raced in the DTM with Team MTEK which uses BMW cars. The German driver has decided to return to the track in the exciting covered wheel championship. He accepted the offer to drive the BMW M4 of the Ceccato team of the DTM icon, Roberto Ravaglia. Glock said he was very satisfied with his new adventure on the track.
The German’s ambitions, even in his F1 days, have always been very high. He was able to count on a team, like Toyota, of absolute depth and vast experience in Motorsport. The reasons to refute the detractors will have been very high also in the DTM for the native of Lindenfels, but great results did not arrive.
