“LucaVialli”: a journey into the heart of the champion at the Ponchielli Theatre

“Luca Vialli” – written as if it were a single word, almost a trademark – will be presented today, Thursday 27 June at 5.30pm at the Ponchielli Theater in Cremona by the author Luke From the Mount in an event moderated by the Sky Sport journalist, collaborator of Cremona1, Louise Warwith the participation of Vialli family – with his brother Nino who signed the preface of the volume – and of illustrious teammates from Cremonese, Sampdoria and Juventus. Among the guests, Ciso Pezzottiassistant coach of Vujadin Boskov at Sampdoria and of Marcello Lippi at Juventus and the national team, the 1982 world champion Antonio Cabrini and a contribution from the journalist from Cremona1, Mauro Maffezzoni. Entrance is free while places last.

The book is based on the testimonies of those who crossed his path on the playing fields as well as those who went through his life. The story starts from afar, from the soccer field on the ground of the Oratory of Christ the King in Cremona, and ends with the embrace with the “twin” Roberto Mancini and the crying on the green lawn of Wembley after winning the 2021 European Championship.

In between there is an extraordinary career made up of incredible successes – promotion to Serie A with Cremonesethe shield with the Sampdoriathe Champions Cup with the Juventusthe trophies with the Chelsea – and of inevitable moments of difficulty, such as the disappointment of Italia ’90, the controversies with Arrigo Sacchi which cost him the loss of the blue shirt, the dark years – the first of his stay at Juventus – when one of the most prolific Italian center forwards in the role of director.

The underlying theme of the narrative is always and above all man: complex, never banal, determined and at the same time fragile, always ready to take on one’s responsibilities, capable of making unexpected choices, such as deciding to go and play in England when the players from our country had until then played almost exclusively in teams Italians, and to stay and live in London while maintaining a visceral attachment to our country. The author, Vialli’s childhood friend, had exclusive access to the champion’s family, and gives us a vivid and vibrant portrait of LucaVialli which can be read as his first authorized biography, unfortunately posthumous.
