From the great singer-songwriter music of Sergio Cammariere to Oscar-winning cinema, from opera masterpieces to guided tours of the underground or archaeological excavations of the medieval Cathedral. And then children’s theatre, culture and history.
This is the Savonese summer at Priamar, with a calendar of around sixty events coordinated by the Municipality of Savona which from 27 June until September offers a range of proposals for an audience of all ages.
A calendar which, as the Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Savona, Nicoletta Negro, explains, is increasingly “nerve center of the Municipality’s summer programming in Savona with a program that runs from the end of June to the beginning of September with a very high pace and quality. Our intention – continues the councilor – is to satisfy the needs of a truly heterogeneous audience ranging from children, who will also have the Teatro sul Prato festival this year, to cinema enthusiasts who, as always, will be able to count on the best films of the season. But there will also be space for all-round music: opera, opera, jazz, musicals and much more. The collaboration with the subjects who every year stimulate us to focus on an increasingly high-quality billboard is wonderful“.
The great summer classics return to Priamar, such as Contaminazioni Liriche, the summer season of Opera Giocosa which this year celebrates 20 years of the festival in the fortress and opens on Thursday 27 June with Il Trovatore by Verdi whose staging sees the presence of young people singers who are increasingly establishing themselves nationally and internationally. A great cult like Cinema in Fortezza also returns, curated by the cultural association Nuovo Film Studio which this year is inspired by Savona’s candidacy as Capital of Culture with a special section dedicated to Nuove Rotte with Io Capitano by Matteo Garrone (migratory routes, 24 July), Orlando My Political Biography by Paul B. Preciado (identity routes, 13 August) and Resistance Climbing (25 August) by Andrew Bisharat, presentation of the West Climbing Bank project with a free entry in favor of the “Gaza Emergency” .

ALBISJAZZ DEBUT IN SAVONA WITH CAMMARIERE
The famous musician and singer-songwriter Sergio Cammariere inaugurates the AlbisJazz Festival at the Priamar on July 1st with an unmissable concert under the stars in the evocative setting of Piazzale del Maschio.
Musician, composer and performer of rare and refined expressive intensity, Cammariere has in his soul the echo of the notes of the great masters of jazz, Latin and South American rhythms, classical music and the style of the great Italian songwriting school. And above all, an innate predisposition for musical composition. His unique and refined style has won over music lovers all over the world and will make the event at Priamar – created in collaboration and with the patronage of the Municipality of Savona and the contribution of the De Mari Foundation – a unique opportunity for enthusiasts of jazz and more.
In addition to Cammariere, the seven masters of the fourth edition of AlbisJazz organized by the La Bella Brezza and Note e Natura association of Cuneo will also be present on stage: the artistic director Dado Moroni (piano), Enzo Zirilli (drums and percussion), Riccardo Fioravanti (double bass and electric bass), Emanuele Cisi (saxophone), Eleonora Strino (guitar), Giampaolo Casati (trumpet), Dino Cerruti (double bass). CINEMA IN THE FORTRESS, 25 UNMISSABLE EVENINGS
The 12th edition kicks off on July 19th and offers a wonderful itinerary made up of twenty-five evenings which, as per tradition, offers the best films of the latest cinema season, divided into four thematic containers: And the Oscar goes to…, the best of the 2023 Academy Awards, great films with a strong visual and emotional impact; Italian and award-winning, our home cinema, a selection of Italian productions presented at the most prestigious national and international festivals; Lights, Camera, Action!, the most interesting Hollywood titles from the Mecca of American cinema; EuropaCinema, the European productions of the season, including comedy and auteur cinema. This edition will see a fifth container dedicated to Savona’s candidacy as Capital of Culture 2027. This year too, the initiative promoted by the Ministry of Culture ‘Cinema Revolution – What a spectacle in the summer’ is active and until 14 September gives the possibility of see all Italian and European films for 3.50 euros. THE LYRIC CONTAMINATION FESTIVAL IS BACK AND CELEBRATES 20 YEARS
First date of ‘Contaminazioni Liriche’ and first date of the Priamar summer program. On June 27 (repeat on the 29th) Il Trovatore will be on stage, which has been missing from Savona since 2007 and is now back under the direction of Stefano Monti in a production produced by 5 theaters: the Municipale of Piacenza, the Pavarotti-Freni of Modena, the Goldoni of Livorno, the Teatro del Giglio of Lucca and our Teatro dell’Opera Giocosa. Between the performances of the Verdi title, on June 28th, there will be a precious symphonic concert. On the podium Mario Meniagli will conduct the Orchestra of the Teatro Goldoni of Livorno for a tribute to Ennio Morricone with his most famous compositions. On Sunday July 7th it will be the turn of Carlo Orff’s Carmina burana which will be entrusted to Gilio Magnanini, director of the Choir of the Theater of Nizza leading the choir Filaharmonia. Finally, the opera scheduled for July 10 is La vedova ingegnosa by the composer Giuseppe Sellitti, directed by Matteo Peirone and Luca Cicolella with Linda Campanella playing the roles in the opera.
THE FORTRESS BETWEEN HISTORY, ART, CULTURE
Summer at Priamar is also history and culture with the Civic Archaeological Museum which offers a series of visits to the basement of the fortress, to the restored marble of the Spinola and Sansoni monuments, to the archaeological excavations at the medieval Cathedral and to the fortress. Reduced entry to the Museum is available for those visiting the excavations. The Savonese Speleological Group also offers a series of underground tours in July (12th and 24th), August (7th and 23rd), September (6th and 20th) and October (10th).
THEATRE ON THE LAWN (BRING A TOWEL AND SIT ON THE LAWN)
There are three events in the children’s event organized by Cattivi Maestri, again at 7pm at Bastione San Paolo. The titles chosen are Gambe Sghembe (26 July – Enrico Lombardi/Quinta Parete, by and with Alessandra Crotti), Just Married (2 August – The Squasvò, physical comedy show, by and with Serena Vergari and Paolo Gargiulo, directed by Beppe Vetti ) and Il Nano Rumpelstiltskin (9 August – Cattivi Maestri, by and with Francesca Giacardi and Maria Teresa Giachetta).
MUSIC, THEATER AND SHOWS ON THE PIAZZALE DEL MASCHIO STAGE
In addition to cinema and opera, the stage set up in Piazzale del Maschio will host dance, theater and live music throughout the summer. The protagonist is a plurality of subjects (Associazione Grecale, Associazione CRESC.I e Oasi Latina, Teatro Sacco, will liven up the Priamar stage with classical ballet, theatre, symphonic music, jazz and musicals.
