CUS Turin: Closing Conference of the Academic Sports Year 2023/2024
The event was an opportunity to celebrate the winning athletes of the 2024 Spring National University Championships, in which CUS Torino took first place in the medal table
It took place this morning at the Turin University Sports Center facility in via Panetti 30 in Turin, the Closing Conference of the 2023/2024 Academic Sports Year. An important opportunity to take stock of the last season and to reward the athletes of CUS Turin team who won a medal at 77th edition of the Spring National University Championshipswhich were held in Molise from 18 to 26 May 2024: in the event the Turin University Sports Center he conquered the first place in the final medal table. The loot that CUS Torino athletes brought home from Molise amounts to 50 medals (19 gold, 12 silver and 19 bronze), of which 34 won by students ofUniversity of Turin: 13 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze.
Many of the students UniTo winning athletes they are part of DualCareerthe program that allows high-level athletes to reconcile their competitive commitment with their university career: it is Althea Secchi (Biological Sciences, silver in women’s wrestling -70 kg), Giuseppe Christian Caniglia (SUISM, silver in men’s wrestling -70 kg), Giulia Italia De Luca (SUISM, gold in judo -52kg), Elisa Toniolo (Physics, silver in judo -63kg), Gaya Bertello (Economy, gold in athletics, women’s 4x100m relay), Isabella Caposieno (SUISM, silver in the women’s 5000m), Gaya Bertello (Economy, bronze in the women’s 100m), Sara Verteramo (SUISM, gold in women’s shot put and bronze in women’s discus throw) and Tommaso Lorenzetti (SUISM, gold in karate kumite -67kg).
During the ceremony the CUS President Riccardo D’Elicio he remembered the appointment of next Olympics Paris 2024, in which athletes from Cussino or those who grew up at the Turin University Sports Center will participate: in boating Veronica Bumbaca (State Police), Alessandra Faella (Navy), Alice Gnatta (Fiamme Gialle), coached by Cussino coach Mauro Tontodonati; in the struggle Aurora Russo (Army) coached by Andrea Sorbello and Pietro Piscitelli; in the Paralympic canoeing Veronica Silvia Biglia (CUS Turin) coached by Matteo Tontodonati.
Furthermore, in the next few days the applications for the AGON Project 2024/2025 (https://progettoagon.it/) inserted in Dual Career program of universities.
Among the speakers was Prof. Alberto RainoldiUniTo Vice Rector for Welfare, Sustainability and Sport, who underlined how “on this day we not only celebrate the splendid results that our university students have been able to achieve at a national level, but also the spirit of “Torino Universitaria” which is working with great enthusiasm to convey the value of Physical Activity as a health prevention tool and awareness of positive lifestyles”. “The University of Turin” – he added “has long since begun a journey to offer wellbeing opportunities to its population, ranging between different interventions: physical activity and the use of facilities free of charge or at subsidized costs is one of the main ones”.
