In Republic Square in Varese the garden around the statue is now dedicated to Financial Police: a plaque assigns the small green area in the large central square to the yellow flames, on the 250th anniversary of their establishment.

The solemn ceremony, which took place in morning of June 26, 2024also saw the speeches of the provincial commander of the financial police Crescenzo Sciaraffa, who defined a correct punishment, for those who commit financial crimes, to seize the illicitly obtained assets: «Because we know what a thief or a robber has to pay for, but we know less about these people who create enormous damage for the community and the state, and use pieces of paper, such as false invoices, as weapons». And instead the damage they cause, although less newsworthy, has a very strong impact: «The thief who steals a few hundred euros makes the news, but often those who steal millions through fraud do not have the same evidence, causing much greater damage».
From January 2023 to last May the Fiamme Gialle of Varese communicated news on the hypothesis of economic-financial crimes, profits deemed responsibly illicit for 310 million euros. In the same period they executed preventive seizure decrees for 90 million euros in financial, movable and real estate availability. Furthermore, the participants were monitored preventively 87 procedures contract for an amount of around 110 million of euros, and always in a preventive way the use of the pre-investigative analysis path has led to 144 controls against individuals, businesses and freelancers who have handled fictitious credits for 22 million of Euro.

The choice to pay homage to the Guardia di Finanza is not a memory, in this case, but an invitation so that those who are committed to guaranteeing constitutional principles and legality continue to do so, with the support of the citizens – said the mayor of Varese explaining the choice of location – Whoever passes by here and sees the plaque dedicated to the Yellow Flames will receive a warning: that constitutional values and legality are always respected.”
During the event, messages from the General Commander of the Guardia di Finanza were also read Andrea DeGennaroand the president Sergio Mattarella. Finally, some soldiers who particularly distinguished themselves during the year were also awarded.
