In Legnano, the Radice council is criticized for a rhetoric on sustainability without substance. The mayor defends contested choices such as the maintenance of the Borsano incinerator and the new PGT, accused of favoring overbuilding and ignoring environmental issues
LEGNANO – Statements on the sustainability of Radice council are causing controversy for their rhetorical and generic tone.
The mayor will speak at the first sustainability festival not for an open debate, but for a monologue in which he will praise his work without the possibility of a reply. The launch of a guide of sustainable municipalities has been announced which includes Legnano only upon request, not based on objective criteria.
The criticisms are also aimed at management of the Borsano incinerator, kept active despite structural problems and declared obsolescence. This choice is seen as anti-economics e harmful to the environmentfueling public health concerns. The new Land Management Plan (Pgt) is accused of to encourage concreting massive and other critical urban developments, ignoring the environmental and landscape needs of the city.
Among the most heated criticisms of the new Land Management Plan (Pgt) of Legnano, stands out the intention of use 120,000 cubic meters of concrete in an area between via San Bernardino and the cemetery area, without restrictions on the height of the buildings. This scenario, together with the construction forecasts on agricultural and forest landraises doubts about compliance with regional regulations on land saving. Furthermore, theintroduction of large commercial structures along viale Sabotino could increase traffic coming from neighboring municipalities, while theinstallation of solar systems on vast agricultural meadows and theconstruction of logistics centers on the Saronna area they add further critical issues to the urban and environmental framework of the city.
But it doesn’t end here, the criticism continues and also focuses on the council’s choices regarding the park management and the promotion of sustainable tourismaspects not mentioned in official speeches.
