Raffaella Luce, the forensic doctor in charge of carrying out the autopsy on the body of Paolo Menditto, a 56-year-old killed in September last year in his home located in the “Unrra Casas” district, in Via Filippo Saporito in Aversa, made his statements.

According to the consultant, heard during the trial of the self-confessed murderer Paolo Scarano, a 35-year-old former soldier from Casal di Principe, the victim would have been “drawn from 22 stab wounds in various points of the body”found “wounds both in the front and back of the body, a sign that there was a struggle. There were also protective wounds. The fatal blow was aimed at the heart.”

Before the second section of the Court of Assizes of the court of Naples, the medical examiner shed light on some salient points of the dynamics of the murder, highlighting that during the dispute between the accused and the victim, the latter tried to defend himself with arms.

According to what was reconstructed during the investigations, the ex-military man, armed with a knife, went to the house of Menditto – a pusher and his rival in love – to distance him from his drug-addicted partner, although he had learned of the woman’s betrayal, which only occurred a few months ago. hours before.

Once Scarano entered the house, located on the first floor of the public building, he began to argue heatedly with the 56-year-old, with a history of drugs and property crimes, and shortly thereafter he began to injure him with the knife he had brought. with him. Immediately afterwards he would have fled, only to be tracked down and arrested at the Aversa station by policemen from the local police station and the Caserta flying squad.

Menditto’s body was found following the alarm raised by his family, who had not heard from their relative for around 24 hours. The firefighters arrived on site and found the man’s lifeless body lying on the living room floor with numerous stab wounds to the chest, sides, abdomen and one arm.

During the interrogation Scarano, who now has to answer for multiple murders aggravated by premeditation and cruelty, confessed to the crime and the motive.

The victim’s family members have filed civil claims. The judge accepted the aggravating circumstance of cruelty based on the self-accusing statements of the suspect and on the testimonies of other people informed of the facts. The violence was motivated by intense jealousy resulting from the discovery of a sexual relationship between his drug-addict girlfriend and the drug dealer.

We return to the courtroom in September for the examination of the policemen from the Aversa police station, who investigated the case and who managed to identify the perpetrator of the crime also thanks to the images of some surveillance cameras.
