Power to the People: “Maritime Park: yet another Ravenna farce”

“Rubble recycled into the foundations for the construction of the first sections of the “Maritime Park” in Punta Marina and Marina di Ravenna.

Anyone of us who has come to see this new “great work” heralded by the Mayor and his Administration has seen it personally.

Just as they were immortalized by the images also broadcast by RAI services and local newspapers in which coarsely chopped rubble with the presence of plastic, broken tiles, pieces of bricks, electrical cables and more could be seen dumped in the foundations.

All this in “4 km of a State Natural Reserve and in an area of state-owned maritime property on the Ravenna coast, subjected to a notable series of (theoretical) environmental, hydrogeological and landscape constraints”.

In essence they buried landfill waste practically on the seashore and in the pine forest instead of using suitable crushed stone with a huge saving on material costs.

Now a series of questions arise spontaneously.

Where were the checks being carried out?And we are talking not only about the Municipality and its technical offices but also (given the various constraints mentioned above) about the Forestry Carabinieri, the Port Authority and the Po Delta Park.

Because only after the controversywhich led to the first public complaintswe intervened with the usual “patch worse than the hole” so dear to our Administration, i.e. the variant prepared as an attempt at a solution?

It’s a shame that it was done with “material already distributed and almost all buried in the final layer of solid earth” and avoiding the product analyzes suggested by Arpae on the compliance of the material used with the purposes of the project”.

Why are the materials used of a very different type today in the section under construction on the Northern shores?

But given the evidence of this situation, neither the Prosecutor’s Office nor the Court wanted to intervene, quickly archiving the complaint presented by Italia Nostra without even raising a doubt.

We denounce this latest Ravenna farce.

Enough of the works in the area that are so much heralded by the Administration and given out to tender in an approximate manner without technical controls and constraints (among these we also mention the Municipal Offices, the eternal Palazzetto, the works for the regasifier and the methane pipeline).

Enough subjection to the free market which in Ravenna has long decided what should and should not be done, with the certainty that no public or supervisory power will prevent it from making the established profits to the detriment of the common good.”
