The University of Udine receives a support decisive from‘Regional administration of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, with particular attention paid to the training of medical specialists. The Health Councilor Riccardo Riccardi he stated that the primary objective is provide concrete and effective answers to the needs of the population, even when these decisions do not lead to immediate consensus.

The prestigious Villa Florio Maseri of Persereano in Pavia of Udine hosted the summer school on infectious diseases, an event dedicated to enhancing knowledge and career opportunities for postgraduates at the University of Udine. Riccardi underlined the importance of these initiatives to improve the preparation of young doctors and encourage their professional growth within the region.

Medical training contracts and scholarships

The Region invests significant resources annually to finance 22 additional contracts for the specialist medical training. These contracts, reserved for residents of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, are in addition to the state contracts, bringing the total to approximately 70 active contracts per year for a value of approximately 2 million euros.

In addition to medical training contracts, the regional administration also finances Scholarships for graduates in non-medical health disciplines such as pharmacists, biologists, physicists and chemists. There are currently 11 active scholarships, with theobjective to get to 18 by the end of the yearfor a total investment of approximately 450 thousand euros.

Address the shortage of medical specialists

Friuli-Venezia Giulia has signed 23 agreements with several Italian universities to address the shortage of specialist doctors in the Regional Health Service Companies. These agreements aim to prevent the “escape risk” of new specialists, encouraging their permanence in regional structures and reducing migration towards the private sector or other regions.

Riccardi concluded by underlining how recent regulatory changes have facilitated the access of new specialists coming from other areas of Italy and promoted the permanence of young doctors in regional healthcare facilities. These interventions are fundamental to guarantee a promising future for the young talents of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
