METRO CARD AND ACCESSORY SERVICES. WE HAVE WRITTEN TO THE DEPARTMENT.

As is well known, the large territorial extension of Rome and its chaotic road distribution have always led the institutions, and in particular those of the Capital, to encourage the use of public transport by Police Force personnel. The virtuous objective that has always been sought is twofold: to deflate private traffic and increase the presence of law enforcement personnel on the city’s means of transport, also increasing the general perception of safety on the part of citizens and users.

Unfortunately, in this regard, we have received several reports regarding the limited scope of usability of Rome’s public transport network by the police.

In fact, our colleagues who have been assigned the metro pass have brought to our attention the fact that it does not include some additional functions that are normally (and we would also add “logically”, in a necessarily intermodal transport such as the Roman one) provided with a normal metro pass.

Exemplifying. The ordinary annual subscription includes the possibility for the user: to park without any additional charge within the so-called exchange car parks; to rent bikes or scooters for a certain number of minutes per day; to keep your bicycle inside the specially designated areas of the metro stations (Bike box), and so on. All functional services when reaching the bus or metro stop.

There ratio of this inclusion is clearly to encourage the use of public transport, trying to direct citizens’ choices towards a logic that favors the so-called green turn, while decongesting the traffic caused by the use of private vehicles.

Well, for the policeman all this is not included in the awarding of the metro card, but can only be obtained by incurring a daily cost which, paradoxically, would be significantly reduced by subscribing to an annual pass.

We have written to the Department to ask for intervention in order to allow colleagues who carry out services in the capital area to move in an agile and easy manner, through the provision, with the release of metro cards, of the related ancillary services.
