Shimpei Tominagathe 56-year-old Japanese entrepreneur, hit by a punch while trying to break up a fight, died in hospital in Udine. The man had been hospitalized for four days in Intensive Care and the other night the commission to ascertain brain death was activated. As the prosecutor of Udine, Massimo Lia, had made known, the position of Samuele Battistella, the twenty-year-old from Mareno di Piave (Treviso) who had thrown the punch, would have worsened in the event of the man’s death. In fact, now the crime charged against him is that of manslaughter. The boy is in prison in Udine together with two peers; all three are residents of the Treviso area.
Shimpei Tominaga dead, condolences
The Mayor of Udine, Alberto Felice De Toni, expressed «deep emotion and sadness» in addressing «the community to express the most sincere condolences for the tragic passing of Mr. Shimpei Tominaga. His loss” is “a serious and painful wound for Udine”. Those who knew him «describe him as an esteemed and respected man and entrepreneur, who lived in Udine, contributing with passion and human and professional commitment to the development of the city, leaving his mark on our community”, writes the mayor. Who underlines that ” It is above all for his last, courageous gesture that I wish to remember him today” that is, for having demonstrated “an exceptional sense of civic responsibility and altruism, paying with his own life. In an era in which too often we remain indifferent towards others, his sacrifice represents an example of humanity and courage, values that our society increasingly needs”, indicated De Toni.

The fight against crime and violence requires a great commitment and today more than ever in Udine it is necessary to restore peace and serenity in our city, also with strong actions that help guarantee the safety of citizens – he concluded – Shimpei Tominaga gave a great example, now we must follow it so that this never happens again in Udine».
The main accusation – of very serious injuries – is borne by Samuele Battistella, 20 years old, resident in Mareno di Piave (Treviso), who threw the punch. Together with him were Daniele Wedam, 20 years old, and Abdallah Djouamaa, 22 years old, both from Conegliano (Treviso). The judge also established a residence ban in Friuli Venezia Giulia for one of the two young Ukrainians involved in the brawl. In the meantime, the injured businessman’s relatives had arrived from Japan.
