L’hospital Between Jerseys And Melpignano marks a small step forward, even if it will no longer be the futuristic structure imagined by “Mario Cucinella Architects” already in 2019. Anas has in fact expressed a favorable opinion on the edit to the project of the road 275so as to allow access to the new hospital.
The favorable opinion
«This is the removal of a serious obstacle – specifies Fabiano Amati, president of the Regional Budget and Planning Commission -, unfortunately with several months of delay and probably due to underestimation by the Lecce Local Health Authority of the possibilities for collaboration offered by the First Commission . The proof of this is that, as soon as we decided to hear Anas on the subject on 17 June, the long-awaited favorable opinion arrived two days later. And for this I thank the department head Vincenzo Marzi.” Amati had previously pointed the finger at the healthcare company. «If the Lecce Local Health Authority had collaborated – he underlined – instead of avoiding invitations to the Commission for long months, today we would not have discovered the failure to resolve the project’s interference with road 275, which should have been resolved since September last year . The problems come to light in a simplistic way.” Then Amati focuses on the ASL’s decision to proceed with the hypothesis of the project review regarding the project which has increased four times in recent years, so much so that it exceeds 400 million euros and can no longer be financed with the program agreement between the Region and Ministry expired on December 31st. «At this point we still have to wait for the legal opinion requested by the Lecce Local Health Authority regarding the project revision and which cost 24 thousand euros – specifies Amati – so as to unblock the procedure and make an application for financial coverage, made necessary after the revocation of the previous loan due to the expiry of the program agreement”.
The new project
The new project would abandon the idea of a structure surrounded by greenery and harmoniously inserted into the context in a horizontal manner to accommodate the traditional tower vision that characterizes the majority of modern hospitals. A solution opposed by the spontaneous pro Ospedale Sud Salento Committee which instead calls for respect for the original project, created among other things by the same architects of the new hospital in Cremona and the Italian Pavilion of the Osaka Expo. «It is known that certain partnership solutions are never in the public interest – the Committee highlights – but tend to satisfy only the private interest. The result will be in inverse proportion to the expected income. The great original project, however, will be useful to mark a change of pace in Salento healthcare, which will not have to be an instrument of clientelism.”
