The awards for the ‘Reporters Award 2024’, announced by the Sicilian journalists group of Assostampa Sicilia in collaboration with the Order of Journalists of Sicily.

The winner of the 2024 edition is the journalist Alice Martinelli with a report on the Camorra clans, broadcast on ‘Le iene show’. She will receive a prize of one thousand euros. Second place, with a prize of 500 euros, for Giacomo Di Girolamo who on ‘Tp24.it’ recounted the difficult profession of the journalist who is increasingly the recipient of threats, reckless complaints and censorship. Third place, Lorena Dolci, who received 250 euros for a report aired on ‘Telecolor’ and ‘Antenna Sicilia’ which talks about gangmastering in Paternò, in the Catania area, and the condition of laborers exploited in the countryside by criminal organizations . The jury composed of the secretary of the Reporters Group Claudia Brunetto, the president of the Order of Journalists of Sicily Roberto Gueli and Concetto Mannisi, regional deputy secretary, examined the works presented.

The jury which, however, evaluated the reports for the plaques dedicated to the masters of Sicilian news, was composed of the deputy secretary of Assostampa Sicilia Roberto Leone, the president of the regional council of Assostampa Sicilia Tiziana Tavella, the Fnsi national councilor Giancarlo Macaluso, by Vittorio Corradino, president of the board of auditors of the Order of Journalists and by Claudia Mirto, president of the pensioners’ group. This jury awarded the ‘Aurelio Bruno’ plaque for crime reporting to Fabio Geraci, journalist of the Giornale di Sicilia, the ‘Gianni Lo Monaco’ plaque for judicial reporting to Laura Di Stefano (La Sicilia), the ‘Marina Pino’ plaque for news reporting to Roberto Puglisi of Live Sicilia, the ‘Vittorio Corona’ plaque for television to Ernesto Oliva (TgRSicilia), the plaque for the economy to Nino Amadore and the ‘Letizia Battaglia’ plaque for photography to Mike Palazzotto.

The ‘Nicola Volpes’ plaque for reporter of the year goes to Giada Lo Porto of Repubblica’s Palermo editorial team, while Daniele Billitteri was awarded the ‘Mauro de Mauro’ plaque for lifetime achievement. Recognition also goes to my colleague Mario Pintagro on the board of the Sicilian Chroniclers Group, to the Mazara del Vallo reporter Roberto Marrone as an emerging journalist and to Franco Lannino and Michele Naccari for the ‘Macelleria Palermo’ exhibition. There are three plaques in memory, dedicated to recently deceased colleagues: Natale Bruno, Angelo Meli and Giusto Lo Bue.
