The lack of a network of plants organized by territorial areas, together with an unprecedented bureaucratic jumble, means that at the slightest hitch the system collapses and Sicily finds itself submerged in waste.” The speaker is the regional coordinator of the M5s Nuccio di Paola.
The five-star party puts the governor in the dock for the latest waste emergency that broke out in Sicily: «Schifani in two years of legislature – underlines Di Paola – has not yet declared what model he wants to offer to our Region; and it will certainly not be the extraordinary powers granted to him by Rome that will help him in this undertaking.”
Meanwhile, Legambiente, WWF and Zero Waste intervened precisely on the extraordinary powers and in recent days, assisted by Giampiero Trizzino, filed an extraordinary appeal with the President of the Republic to request the annulment of the decree appointing Schifani as extraordinary commissioner. «That of the environmentalist associations, accompanied by our Giampiero Trizzino – concludes Nuccio Di Paola – is a meritorious action that we can only welcome and share. The motivation that led Schifani, currently extraordinary commissioner for waste management in Sicily, to decide to close the plant is unclear.”
