“Understanding and Addressing Migration in Sicily”

“Integration and Inclusion: Understanding and Addressing Migration in Sicily” is the theme of a workshop that will be held in Sciacca, in the conference room of the municipal library of Palazzo Lazzarini, on 24 and 25 June, from 8.30 to 12.30.

The initiative aims “to highlight the migratory reality that Sicily and Italy are facing, raise awareness in society of the effects of this situation and encourage dialogue to find common solutions. The workshop sessions will address various topics: maritime rescue on the Sicilian coasts, the legal aspects of immigration, the integration of migrants, journalism and the narrative of immigration, and much more.”

The workshop is organized in collaboration between the University of Eastern Finland, the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Working Group number five of the COREnet project of the European Union, the Order of Labor Consultants of Agrigento and the Municipality of Sciacca, with the departments of Social Policies and Community Policies.

They will speak: Alessandro Indelicato (University of Eastern Finland, Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and COREnet), the councilor for Social Policies Agnese Sinagra, Father Stefano Nastasi of the Archbishop’s Seminary of Agrigento, Emanuela Casà of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Anna Campo and Caterina Gulotta of the Quadrifoglio association, Michelangelo Graffeo of the Order of Labor Consultants, Anissa and Sonia Charfeddine of the Paideia association, the journalist Giuseppe Recca of the newspaper La Sicilia and Vito Sclafani, honorary president of the Marinai d’Italia association of Sciacca .
