Cycle pedestrian traffic crashes into the Gondola opening

Monday 24 June 2024 – 08.30

A reader of QUInews who prefers to travel by bicycle he sent us an open letter to the Municipality of Pisa, where he explained his opposition to the choices made by the Urban Planning Commission regarding the opening of the walls at the height of the Gondolas.

“I learn with sadness and dismay of the approval of a project for the Gondola crossing which, in my opinion, represents the lowest-cost solution for the city – he wrote – it is estimated to spend 150 thousand euros to build a wall close to the historic Pisan walls and create a 3 meter wide passage that cars in both directions, bicycles and pedestrians will have to share. If this means encouraging cycle-pedestrian mobilityI apologize, it means that I didn’t understand anything about this topic and I hope I’m the only one.”

“The project was approved by PD, City of People and by the majority, everyone agrees in guaranteeing maximum usability of the former ASL car park for cars at the expense of pedestrians and bicycles: the cross motor party won again – he added – the project originally proposed by councilor Dringoli, however, had the advantage of creating a path entirely dedicated to cycle and pedestrian traffic. It would have run along the walls, it would have involved the demolition of a dilapidated building, it would have been able to enhance and expand the tree beds currently present and it would have taken away parking spaces from the former ASL car park”.

It would have redeveloped a degraded area in continuity with the recent interventions to enhance the city walls – he concluded – to my opinion for the original Dringoli project the public money allocated would have been well spent. I trust and hope that the Superintendency can block the disgrace that lies ahead and that the technical skills of the municipal offices can remedy the shabby project approved by the Commission”.
