CASSANO MAGNAGO – A space for the homeless to stay after hospitalization or surgery, a place dedicated to post-acute care for those living in conditions of fragility caused by the difficulties of street life. This is the intervention proposal presented bySocial territorial area of Gallarate and financed under the Pnrr: will be carried out in Cassano Magnago, where two properties were identified for a total of approximately 500 thousand euros of interventions. The first – where there is already a technical-economic feasibility project, for approximately 190 thousand eurosapproved by the council – is the former caretaker’s house of the municipal headquarters in via Volta, the other is the property in the Sant’Anna area in via Montegrappa.
The objectives
What is it about? The plan is among the proposals for intervention by the territorial social areas to be financed under the Pnrr. The objective is to expand the services dedicated to social housing, to guarantee the care of subjects in highly vulnerable conditions and promote personalized paths aimed at exiting the emergency and achieving personal autonomy. In this case, the original design on the basis of which the request for financing for the Gallarate area was made had chosen spaces to redevelop in Samarate. But with a note dated March 2023, the Samaratese Municipality communicated «the unavailability of the identified structure», we read in the resolution which retraces the steps of the entire process. And here Cassano intervened and «expressed the intent to replace the unavailability by proposing two freehold real estate units».
Specifically, they will be carried out «post-acute reception facilities 24 hours a day for homeless people in conditions of physical fragility or health seriously compromised by street life, who have undergone hospital admissions, surgical operations, to whom the protected discharge services referred to in the component can be dedicated”.

Overall «the operation is worth 500 thousand euros“, explains councilor Rocco Dabraio (Public Works). But if for the property in via Montegrappa “we still have to wait for the Superintendence to give the green light”, in the meantime we proceed with the plan that concerns the former caretaker’s house in via Volta. The details are explained in the technical-illustrative report, which explains – among others – the division of the property into two sections. A sleeping area that occupies an area of 46 square meters walkable and includes the corridor, the disabled bathroom preceded by an area with a possible laundry function, three single rooms of 9 square meters each and a small hallway for the secondary entrance (also necessary to attenuate the noise coming from the town hall).
And then a living area with a walkable surface area of 24 square metreswhich includes the functions of a kitchenette, dining room and living room.
