The 2024 edition of Cinema under the stars begins at the former Caserma Cantore. It starts on June 24th with the screening of Buena Vista Social Club. Starting at 9.45pm.
In its 21st edition, the event from 24 June to 11 September arrives at the former Caserma Cantore, on the Stradone Farnese (Stradone Farnese 39 – “Ingresso Cavallerizza) granted by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti which owns it. The longest event of the Piacenza cultural summer will keep the projector on for two and a half months, with a program of seventy evenings, an average of six shows a week.
June 24, Il Cinema Ritrovato: BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB – VO
Directed by Wim Wenders with Ry Cooder, Ibrahim Ferrer (Germany 1998, 1h 41′).
The German filmmaker follows famous guitarist Ry Cooder and his son Joachim to Cuba, where the two gather the country’s best musicians to record an album and perform in front of enthusiastic audiences. Personal confessions, musical journeys, stories of real life intertwine in a splendid fresco where the camera with fluid and enveloping movements captures the talent and irrepressible joy of living of these extraordinary musicians.
JUNE 25 WAKE ME AT MIDNIGHT: SCREENING WITH THE AUTHOR
Directed by Francesco Patierno, with Fuani Marino and Eva Padoan (Italy 2023, 1h 11′).
Based on the true story of a young woman who, due to severe depression, throws herself from the fourth floor of a building and survives the fall, the documentary film investigates the dark places of psychological distress through frames and fragments, words and the emotions of a fragile existence, illuminating them with the story of an unexpected resurrection that brings with it hope.
26 JUNE, THE WIND BLOWS WHERE IT WANTS: SCREENING WITH THE AUTHOR

In a small town in the Emilian Apennines, the young and devout Antimo spends an insignificant life between the parish, modest meetings with his girlfriend and the stable where he works listlessly with his father. One day he meets Lazzaro, a boy in the nearby stable, he decides to convert him by teaching him his personal and heretical reading of Christianity, which drags the two onto unexplored paths, which do not foresee a return.
JUNE 27, AFRIN IN THE UNDERWATER WORLD

The documentary film tells the story of Afrin, a 12-year-old girl who, after losing her home due to heavy floods in Bangladesh – and at the same time escaping an arranged marriage – sets off in search of her father who he abandoned it years ago, arriving all the way to Dhaka, where he will collide with the harsh reality of the metropolis.
JUNE 28, BAD MISSES AT HOME
Directed by Thea Sharrock with Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley (Great Britain 2023, 1h 40′).
In 1922 the routine of a small English town is upset by a series of obscene and insulting anonymous letters, addressed to a devout, Christian and morally impeccable woman. Quite the opposite of her neighbor Rose Gooding, a lively and non-conformist Irish immigrant. She will be the first suspect, and immediately arrested, as the author of the anonymous letters. But to shed light on the matter, a young policewoman together with the women of the neighborhood will work to discover the truth.
