Natisone tragedy, Cristian’s body found: his brother arrived on site

The rescuers engaged in the search found a body in the Natisone: official confirmation is awaited but there is no doubt that it could be that of Cristian Molnar, missing since Friday 31 May when he was overwhelmed by the waters of the river together with two friends. Brother Radu also arrived on site.

The body was in a pool of water not far from where the bodies of the two girls were found on May 31st Bianca and Patrizia were swept away together with him by the Natisone in via delle Betulle, 300 meters before the other discoveries.

A body found in the Natisone, it is that of Cristian: the rescuers at work

The three boys had gone to the bed of the Natisone to take some photos on May 31st when, due to the intense rainfall of the previous days, the water level of the Natisone rapidly rose. Until the boys, locked in an embrace, were overwhelmed.

Since then the searches have never stopped and first the bodies of the two girls were found, and only today that of the young Romanian, resident in Austria. With the methods and number of rescuers and bodies and vehicles involved, the searches were also underway this morning. The lowering of the water level in recent days allowed the discovery

On June 2nd you found the girls

Three weeks ago the bodies of the two girls, Bianca and Patrizia, were found. The discovery took place on the morning of Sunday 2 June, during the searches which resumed at first light.

It is presumable, as some experts also maintain, that the death of the two girls occurred a few moments after they passed under the bridge, when they effectively disappeared from sight.

Dragged by the impetuous force of the waters, the bodies, perhaps already lifeless due to the very low temperature of the water, ended up in a ravine or entangled in the vegetation.

Some eyewitnesses had clearly seen at least one of the people involved crashing violently against the ravine and the rocks that are found just beyond the Roman bridge. Furthermore, the water temperature was very cold.

In the event that the trajectory of the river had miraculously ejected someone onto the bank, it would have been necessary to locate them with absolute speed, to avoid one death due to hypothermia.

Cristian’s research

Since May 31st, the search for the boy has never stopped. Not even after the discovery of the two friends last June 2nd. In recent days the prefect of Udine has remodeled the rescue machine: «The checks will be entrusted mainly to molecular dogs, continuing to patrol the banks of the Natisone river up to the confluence with the Torre”, declared Domenico Lione.

To guarantee support, a fire brigade continued to be operational in the municipality of Premariacco with the collaboration of the Fvg Civil Protection.

The investigation

Piece after piece, testimony after testimony. So the Prosecutor’s Office is trying to reconstruct what happened between the first request for help coming from Natisone and the last attempt by the firefighters who they tried until the end to save Patrizia, Bianca and Cristian from the tumultuous waters.

The investigators also want to shed light on the management of the phone calls that Patrizia made from the riverbedcalling 112 four times.

And for this reason the Carabinieri will hear from the operators of the single emergency number center in the next few days: on Wednesday 12 June at least three of them – who were on duty in the early afternoon of Friday 31 May and who responded to the requests for help from Palmanova by Patrizia Cormos – have received a communication from the Army, with which they are invited to contact the investigators, as people informed about the facts.

Their story, combined with the acquisition of telephone records already ordered by the Prosecutor’s Office, will help to clarify how the emergency services were activated.

Patrizia called Nue four times, the first at 1.29pm, followed closely by a second call. At 1.47pm, 112 received a call from a citizen reporting the presence of the three boys in the Natisone. At 2.07pm the young woman called the emergency number twice within a few seconds and one of the two calls went unanswered.
