Monza: via Bergamo becomes Puccini’s stage for an evening

The works by Puccini in the nightlife street of Monza. Thursday 27 June from 7.30 pm to 11.30 pm in via Bergamo the most famous arias of the composer from Lucca, who died a hundred years ago, who between 1886 and 1887 will resonate he lived in Monza in Corso Milano 18 where his only son Antonio was born.

The initiative called “And the stars shone – Monza loves Puccini” is managed by the association Mnemosyne, I Love via Bergamo, Confcommercio Monza. They will perform on five fixed locations opera singers who will sing the arias of Puccini’s melodrama accompanied by some dancers. The first location, which will be located between via Pesa del Lino and via Bergamo, will host musicians and dancers. They will take their places in the other stations sopranos and tenors accompanied by a pianist. Traveling performances are also planned along the way.

“Our goal – he underlines Ettore Radicepresident of the association Mnemosyne – is to involve the younger segment, the frequenters of Via Bergamo, accustomed to listening to a completely different kind of music. Ours is a pedagogical function, a way to make the great work known.” The singers will perform excerpts from all of his compositions Puccini from “Tosca” to “Madame Butterfly“, from “Bohemian” to “Turandot” until “The girl of the West”, “Gianni Schicchi”, “Edgar”, whose third act was composed in Monza, and more. During the evening, leaflets will be distributed to tell the story of Puccini’s stay in the Brianza capital and a summary of his works.

There will be a “tasty” part for the palate. The locals on the street will prepare cocktails inspired by Puccini titles or characters. “We are happy that such high-level events take place in via Bergamo, one of the most active streets in Monza – underlines the trade councilor Carlo Abba– in this way the image of the city is strengthened and opera, which was once something popular, is made known to twenty and thirty-year-olds”. Next Thursday’s event is part of the “Monza and Giacomo Puccini – a requited love” organized by the Monza committee for the 2024 Puccini celebrations, which includes ten cultural associations from the Brianza capital. And still on the subject of re-enactments, Radice launches a proposal regarding the entrance to Via Bergamo, where one of the evening’s stations will be set up. “The hatters’ festivals once took place here on July 25th and it would be nice if it were named Largo dei hatters“.
