University campus in Brindisi, awarded the contract worth over 4 million euros

The winning company 15 companies participated in the tender procedure, but the contract was awarded to the company Cantieri Generali SpA of Casarano, which prevailed with a 7.5% reduction on the starting price of 4.8 million euros and, therefore, will carry out the works for 4.4 million, to which will be added two million for the cost of labour, 132 thousand euros for safety costs and 167 thousand euros for the executive planning, for a total of almost seven million. The process to create a first-level university center in the Adriatic capital was strongly supported by the previous Rossi administration, thanks to the financing of approximately 15 million euros within the Pnrr funds. The project involves the redevelopment of not only the former Ministry of Finance building, but also the adjacent building of the former Marconi school in via Maglie, to be used as a school canteen (762 thousand euros). The other preparatory interventions for the university citadel will also include the redevelopment and renovation works of Bastione San Giacomo and Bastione Arruinado, intended for exhibition halls, cultural and entertainment services (112 thousand euros), of the Italian Red Cross building – section of Brindisi, to be used as a health center and first aid station 118 (442 thousand euros), of the Oddo gym, which will be a sports space also available to university students (129 thousand euros), of the Church of Christ, to be used as a place of worship and for cultural services (452 thousand euros) and, finally, the garden of the former Parco della Rimembranza and naturalistic area along the Patri Canal (1.1 million euros). The project also involves the construction of university accommodation and a library between the former revenue agency and the old main complex of Marconi. The objective The entire work, therefore, will cost around 15 million euros, which fall within the Pnrr financing, as part of the PinQuAm “National Innovative Program for the Quality of Living”. The objective, therefore, is to relocate Brindisi in a new university dimension, to make it take off and make it an attractive university center for the whole of Salento and beyond, but also to restore dignity to that portion of the city totally abandoned and degraded by time
