Virtus Bologna has two very big issues to resolve, one bigger than the other: the future of Luca Banchi and above all that of Toko Shengelia.
If the coach also has a contract for next season, the Georgian only has one renewal option very important figures for the new downsized budget of VuNere. So let’s not take it for granted that this option will become a reality.
Banchi has been linked several times to Baskonia, a club with which he had also been in contact last summerand recently there has also been talk of Shengelia as a possible market man for the Basques, formation in which he played from 2014 to 2020before moving to CSKA Moscow until the outbreak of war with Ukraine.
For the power forward, Baskonia is home and with 33 years to go he could return to where he spent most of his sporting life. Shengelia would be further incentivized to return to Baskonia if Luca Banchi were also to leave Virtus Bolognagiven the excellent relationship that has been created this year between the two.
In short, it is very likely that next year the Grosseto and the Georgian will work together. It just remains to be seen whether they will do it in Emilia or in the Basque Country. Not a small detail for VuNere fans.
