Threatens Ser.D staff and some passers-by with a kitchen knife: arrested in Matera

MATERA – The Matera State Police arrested a 42-year-old local man in flagrante delicto, convicted of attempted extortion, violence or threats to a public official, aggravated damage and unjustified possession of a bladed weapon. Specifically, it was a kitchen knife, with a blade of approximately 15 cm.

The facts date back to the morning of June 20, when the medical staff of the local Ser.D. (Pathological Addiction Service of the Local Health Authority) reported to 113 that a man was going on a rampage, threatening to kill them and destroy the furniture with an iron bar, in order to obtain an additional dose of methadone. In the meantime, after the security personnel had managed, with difficulty, to get him out, the man had taken a large kitchen knife out of his shoulder bag, which he first pointed at those present and then used to damage a parked car.

When several crews from the Flying Squad and the Flying Squad arrived on site, the man had already left on foot. The escape, however, did not last long, as he was spotted a short distance away, while he ran among passers-by brandishing the weapon. When he was stopped near John Paul II park, he had already disposed of the knife, throwing it into a rubbish bin. He was arrested and taken to prison.
