Adrift, with the engine failing, in the middle of the storm. First intervention yesterday for the operators of the new Coast Guard garrison, activated in recent days in Menaggio, who saved two people in difficulty in the lake in the area between Bellagio and Varenna.
The two had gone out yesterday morning with a small boat. They had left Varenne and in the afternoon, not seeing them return and given the worsening weather conditions, an acquaintance called the single emergency number 112. The request was immediately forwarded to the Coast Guard operations room. The operators managed to contact the two boaters, who explained that they were adrift and with the engine failing, in the midst of the passage of the strong storm that hit the Larian area yesterday.

The search and rescue unit of the Lake Como Coast Guard immediately intervened and reached the boat, at the mercy of the choppy lake and strong gusts of wind. The two occupants were scared but unharmed. The operators hooked the boat and towed it to the port of Varenna.

The Coast Guard, on the occasion of the first intervention of the new garrison, coordinated by Commander Daniel Gregori, recalls the useful advice for sailing safely. “Always check the efficiency of your boat in port, both for the engine part, for fuel and safety equipment, before embarking on navigation and above all always check the weather forecast”.
“It is also important to always have an active and connected telephone – they add from the Coast Guard – and immediately contact, if necessary, the single emergency number 112 to allow a timely rescue or assistance intervention”.
