“Pride is now an ideological manifestation of the left”. Carolina Varchi, deputy of Fratelli d’Italia, writes it on her Facebook page, on the Palermo Pride which will be staged today, Saturday 22 June, on the streets of the capital.

“To the exponents of the centre-right coalition and the organizers who will participate – he adds – I guarantee that none of the Pride demands will ever become law, as we promised our voters when we presented ourselves for the elections. Indeed, we are working – concludes Varchi – on measures that go in a direction contrary to the LGBT ideology, such as the establishment of the universal crime of surrogacy”.

The program

The official events of Palermo Pride 2024 began last June 6 with the inauguration of the village at the Cantieri cultural alla Zisa. Just as Luigi Carollo, rights activist and great protagonist of the Palermo pride, who suddenly passed away last April 24, would have wished, the godmothers of the 2024 edition will be: the artist Bigmama, who recently appeared at the Sanremo 2024 festival with the song “La rage it’s not enough for me” and Simona Malato, Sicilian actress and protagonist of the famous film “Stranizza d’amuri” by Giuseppe Fiorello. On Saturday 22 June, the highlight of Pride, the procession will take place and will start from Piazza Verdi. On Sunday 23 June, the “Rainbow Fest” will be held at Villa Filippina Park, a day of music, shows and workshops for children.

Tamajo’s welcome

The councilor for Productive Activities of the Sicilian Region, Edy Tamajo, expresses his warm wishes to all the participants of Palermo Pride 2024. “Pride has no political colour”, declared Tamajo. “It is a fundamental moment to claim the rights of everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or any other personal characteristic.” Councilor Tamajo underlines the importance of this event as an opportunity for inclusion, respect and recognition of civil rights. “Pride is a celebration of a more equal community and a call for equality and social justice,” she added.
