Fourteen fires today in Sicily involved foresters, firefighters and civil protection volunteers. In Agrigento 3, in Caltanissetta 4, in Catania 4, in Enna 1, in Palermo 1 and in Trapani 1.
In the Agrigento area in Cianciana in the Bissana district, in Licata in the Sant’Oliva district, in Santo Stefano di Quispuina in the Fontanele district. In the Nisseno area in Mazzarino in the Cimia district, in Santa Caterina Villarmosa in the Bivio Noce district, in Butera in the La Carruba district. In the Palermo area in Belmonte Mezzagno in the Casale district. In the Catania area in San Gregorio di Catania in the Carubbazza district, in Biancavilla in the Solicchiata district, in Castiglione di Sicilia. In the Enna area the fires occurred in Aidone in the Cozzo del Medico district while in the Trapani area in Buseto Palizzolo in the Blandano district.

The action of the anticyclone Minos in Sicily does not stop. In fact, temperatures continue to rise on the island. In Palermo a maximum perceived temperature of 37 degrees was recorded. The Sicilian capital that earned the red sticker, i.e. with the situation that requires maximum attention. Heat waves have been the protagonists in Palermo for a few days. Same degrees (37) in Catania and Messina but with an orange sticker.

The civil protection warning for fire and heat wave risk number 124 issued this afternoon indicates high danger and maximum alert levels in Agrigento, Caltanissetta and Trapani. Orange warning in Catanaia, Enna, Messina, Palermo, Syracuse and Ragusa.
Fire in Bellolampo, ARPA working to assess air quality
The ARPA technicians and the firefighters of the Nbcr unit worked to evaluate the air in the area of the Bellolampo landfill and also in the neighborhoods close to the plants and the municipalities of Capaci, Isola delle Femmine and Torretta. Last year, after the first data, the dioxin alarm was raised. A few nights ago the firefighters and the Rap company, with the help of earthmoving vehicles from the same company, took steps to put out the various fires by covering the waste with earth. At the moment there are two teams on site who with Rap personnel are continuing the burial and cooling operations. There are no longer any flames but smoke is emerging from the piles of rubbish.
The Bellolampo landfill in the Municipality of Palermo, managed by Rap, burned all night. The flames were fanned by the sirocco wind. As has happened in recent years, with the heat and wind the plant catches fire. At least six teams were involved during the night. The flames from an initial reconstruction affected the frame of a tank being filled. Rap president Giuseppe Todaro commented on the state of the shutdown operations.
“We managed to intervene in time – declared the leader of the Board of Directors of the investee company – Monitoring is done constantly. We have the images and I await a service report on what happened.” Rap manager Massimo Collesano supervises the procedures.
