UDINE. Starting from Monday 24 June the renovation of the sewerage and water network will begin viale Europa Unita. These are long-awaited works which will completely renovate the network of water underground services present on the southern artery of the ring and which will definitively resolve the problems linked to the state of the present network, now old and sometimes damaged.

During the preparation of the construction site, on Wednesday 26 June, the water service will be interrupted, from 8.30 am to 4.00 pm, for the users of Viale Europa Unita and Via De Rubeis.

Step 1

Jobs

The interventions, which will be made by Cafc and provide an overall picture of one million and 200 thousand euroswill be aimed at the construction of a new sewerage system with latest generation materials which will replace the present one, now very dated and worn over the years, also brought to its limits by increasingly intense occasional rainfall.

In this part of the city, in fact, due to the shape of the municipal territory sloping towards the south, rainwater is conveyed, which puts the sewer system under stress that it is no longer able to withstand at present.

In addition, the water network connected to the aqueduct will also be completely renovated, with all the relevant connections to individual users.

The last step of the work will in fact be completely rebuild the asphaltwhich today has numerous cracks, depressions, surface fractures and bumps.

Once the works are completed, there will no longer be any flooding or inconvenience to services due to wear and tear on the area’s water infrastructure and consequently, the new surface road surface will also be more durable and will guarantee greater transport safety.

Step 1

The steps

The overall work will be divided into three intervention tranches: the first phase will concern the last stretch of viale delle Ferriere, in the second step of work the work will instead be carried out on the stretch of viale Europa Unita between via De Rubeis and the intersection with via Caterina Percoto, for a timetable which, with weather conditions favorable, will end approximately in the second week of August.

As regards the third part of the works, starting from August 19th, work will be carried out on the portion of the avenue between via Caterina Percoto and via Roma. Overall the construction site will last 150 days.

Step 2

Temporary changes to traffic

Considering the large amount of traffic that flows into Viale Europa Unita every day and the connections with the train station, a plan of modification of the road system which will be developed at the same time as the construction site and will guarantee smooth and safe traffic flow for everyone.

In the first phase, which will affect Viale delle Ferriere, Viale Europa Unita will remain open to vehicles. To access it and continue in the direction of the train station, the vehicles will have to make a detour into via Tullio and then travel south via De Rubeis.

Starting July 8th, when excavations begin on Viale Europa Unita, the first stretch of it will be inaccessible. The vehicles will therefore be diverted again onto via Tullio and via de Rubeis, from which they can continue onto via Marsala. Anyone who wants to head towards via Roma or reach the second stretch of viale Europa Unita will have to take via De Rubeis and turn into via Ippolito Nievo.

From via Tullio, heading east, all vehicles, except heavy ones, will be able to pass on via Ciconi, which will be temporarily made two-way, up to Piazzale della Repubblica.

Step 3

Changes to local public transport

Important changes will also affect local public transport. Lines 1 and 7 towards via Marsala will be diverted onto via Percoto, via Ciconi and via Marsala.

Lines 3,8,9,H,T towards the railway will be routed to via Tullio, via Ciconi and via Caterina Percoto; the same lines towards piazzale Cella will instead continue on via Percoto, via Ciconi and via delle Ferriere.

From 8 July, when the construction site in viale Europe Unita will be opened, lines 1 and 7 towards the train station will carry out an alternative route on via Melegnano, viale Palmanova and viale Europa Unita.

As regards the extra-urban lines, given the closure of the artery leading to the bus station, the buses will be diverted onto Via Ciconi, with two-way traffic, and onto Via Leopardi.

Step 3

Councilor Marchiol

“The works underway are very important for the city, necessary to resolve some structural problems of the sewerage infrastructure that have been present for some time.”

Step 3

«We have established a very fruitful collaboration with CAFC to carry out the work program on the network in various crucial nodes, always taking the citizens’ needs into maximum consideration and therefore the works will begin now that the school period is over and there is a relative slowdown summer traffic”, comments the councilor for Public Works and Mobility Ivano Marchiol.

«The new water services infrastructure will help us lighten the workload of the neighborhood’s sewerage system and provide a renewed, improved and future-proof water service to citizens».
