Thefts in footballers’ homes they can no longer be counted. There have been several cases in the last period: from the flurry of thefts in Bergamo to the latest, sensational case, that of Roberto Baggio. The divine pigtail was the victim of a violent robbery in his house in Altavilla Vicentina. A script not very different from the nightmare evening experienced by the PSG goalkeeper, Gigio Donnarumma, and his girlfriend, tied up and threatened in their Parisian home by a gang of robbers. A problem experienced by many colleagues of the national team goalkeeper. Looking only at Lombardy, it is difficult to count the thefts in the homes of footballers in recent years, there have been so many. Probably, a direct consequence of the myriad of information that today, three media, social and web, can be collected on the lives of players: only with post stories and articles is it possible to have a sort of “real-time tracking” of the movements and routines of athletes and their families. A photo posted lightly can also give valuable information for finding the way back to the exact address of the unfortunate player. And, once they strike the location and habits of the victims, theft becomes a real piece of cake for the robbers.

Atalantini robbed

In recent years they have been six Atalanta players robbed. The gang in question struck during matches: before Toloi (the last Atalanta player hit) fell to Jérémie Boga in Dalmine, Luis Muriel, Juan Musso And Gianluca Scamacca in Bergamo, Merih Demiral in Torre de’ Roveri.

The biggest blow, however, is probably that of December 2020 against Luis Muriel. While Atalanta was defeated at home (2-3) by Villarreal, being eliminated from the Champions League, the thieves entered his apartment at the foot of the Città Alta, taking away cash, valuables and above all about ten watches of brands like Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Hublot for a value of 300 thousand euros.

Inter players also in the crosshairs

Even in Milan the gangs of robbers study the movements of the footballers to be robbed. The concrete example was the thefts against Inter players Hakan Calhanoglu and Stefano Sensi. The thieves monitored the movements of well-known personalities by constantly keeping their social profiles (and the Serie A championship calendar) under constant control: the house of Sensi and company, for example, was burgled while the midfielder was at San Siro for the match Between Inter and Turin on 21 December 2021; that of the Turkish teammate was instead targeted (but without anything being taken from the apartment) during the return derby on 5 February 2022. The loot, in both cases, is mainly composed of valuable jewelery and watches. A fate also shared with his former teammate Ivan Perisicwhose Milan apartment was burgled in 2019.

The Theo Hernandez case

The victim of the most violent and sensational precedent (very similar to what happened to Baggio and Donnarumma) is Milan full-back Theo Hernandez. Or better. In that case the real victims of the blitz were his partner Zoe Cristofoli and her six-month-old son, Theo junior. It was October 2022. The French winger was not in his villa in Cassano Magnago at the time of the intrusion when the robbers – at least four – climbed over the fence of the villa, aware of his partner’s presence. Once inside the bandits attacked the influencer, jerked her and forced her to open the safe. The loot was estimated at thousands of euros.
