The call to order launched by Mayor Michele Guerra in the City Council on June 10th did not go unheeded or even painlessly.

Parma, Mayor Guerra in the Council: “Embarrassment among the majority, clarification is needed”

The request for clarity that the mayor expressed publicly in the chamber during a session that was tense to say the least due to the absences from the majority benches had the effect of three meetings in the space of ten days in the Pd group of Parma.

Democrats remain tight-lipped about the outcome of the meetings. A summary note is being drawn up to be disseminated to the media to provide feedback on what was agreed upon.

From what emerges, beyond the form to be used to reiterate the obvious support for the mayor’s work, the prospect of another three years of municipal administration to be experienced on a roller coaster does not leave the municipality at peace. And the constant electoral deadlines certainly don’t help.

The European elections have just ended, in September the new president of the Province will be chosen and to follow there will be the fundamental voting match in the Regionals.

The Democratic Party is firmly the first party in the city in terms of number of votes, it controls most of the municipalities in the Parma area and this, as they say in the jargon, allows the party to deal its cards with all its annexes and connections also in terms of personal ambitions and specific weights of the various currents.

Precisely the result coming out of the European polls has reinvigorated the expectations of those who, even in the City Council, would like the Democratic Party led by Elly Schlein to be closer to environmentalist and left-wing demands, to the detriment of centrist positions. An alignment that should find greater impetus in the choices of the Council.

Then there are those in the council group who maintain a more government profile, based on realpolitik after twenty years spent in opposition.

Guerra calls the coalition to order and warns the Democratic Party: “Enough stumbling. Open reflection on the future”

But it is clear that, after the airport master plan, projects such as the Via Emilia bis, the Tibre motorway and the new Tardini risk digging a furrow between the various positions.

To the general theme of the political positioning of the city’s first party and the main majority group in the Council, we must add the expectations of individuals in terms of roles and candidatures and the requests – more or less explicit – for changes of delegations in the Council.

In short, navigation will be by sight and Mayor Guerra’s capacity for political mediation will be more indispensable than ever.
