VIAREGGIO. Urban guerrilla scenes, yesterday around 2.30pm, at the Conad supermarket in via Paolina. Three very young people of North African origin were caught stealing bottles of gin, which were found recovered. At that point the young people were escorted out as unwanted people. While two sales assistants and the manager were still outside the shop, one of the boys left and then returned with some stones in his hand, recovered from the curb in front of the church of San Paolino (some of the stones in the photo). One was thrown at the Conad director who was injured in the head. He needed treatment in the emergency room of the Versilia hospital, where he was transported in a yellow code Red Cross ambulance. In hospital the man underwent a CT scan and had some stitches applied.
The three boys (“they didn’t reach 18”, says a witness), before fleeing, threw more stones inside the supermarket at the shop assistants’ address, luckily without hitting them. Furthermore, they took it out on a customer who was outside the store and was leaving by car, and on another – still inside – forced to take shelter to avoid the worst.
After the police were alerted, a state police car intervened on site. There are church cameras on a light pole in front of the supermarket which it is hoped will serve to provide useful images to investigators. In whose hands there is also an amateur video showing the moment of the stones being thrown at the supermarket manager, who was attempted to be shielded by two shop assistants.
It is not the first time the supermarket has been targeted by thieves, but what happened yesterday is very serious indeed. The supermarket set up surveillance from 4pm until closing, managed by Wis Investigation. Whose staff, as soon as they were made aware of the incident, took over early to provide assistance to the orders who experienced moments of tension.
