Aversa (Caserta) – Great success at the Lendi Theater of Sant’Arpino for the students of the bilingual school “JJ. Rousseau” of Aversa with the show “Pinocchio and the value of diversity”.

Pinocchio, the most famous story in the world, taught children in a fun and allegorical way that his adventures are a mirror for all of us young and old. Pinocchio is naive at first, but then he grows up and understands that the essence of life is in his most sincere feelings: in those for the Fairy and for his father Geppetto. The music accompanied the spectators by the hand, also immersing them emotionally in the environment in which the events took place. Through the adventures of the wooden puppet we tried to focus on the concept of diversity understood as a source of enrichment and growth. Teaching to know and respect differences is the starting point for an inclusive and prejudice-free attitude.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Unicef, the primary school pupils presented to all the spectators in the audience and in the presence of the president of the Unicef Campania Committee, Emilia Narciso, the President of Unicef Caserta, Lia Pannitti, and the president of the Artedonna association, Rachele Arena, the book ‘Pinocchio and the value of diversity’ created during the school year with their teachers.

The students were immediately enthusiastic about the idea of accompanying the protagonist of the story on a journey to find himself. After several vicissitudes and twists he managed to accept himself, to value his diversity and to recognize his strengths. The creative writing workshop was a highly educational experience, as by working synergistically the students learned mutual respect, kindness, empathy, sharing, values that make this journey called ‘Life’ more worth living. On the other hand, diversity feeds mutually and reciprocally on the diversity of others, so diversity unites and enriches the community.

A question to ask is whether diversity in all its meanings is truly perceived as an asset and not as a limit in our daily lives, which is why it is important to start talking about these issues to the little ones, stimulating discussion and leading them to reflect, albeit in a light and playful way, it means hoping tomorrow to have citizens who respect the true values of life and others.
