Work is underway to resurface the road surface of via Eugenio Montale and part of via Kennedy
“It is a small but important intervention for the liveability and safety of Acireale. The road surface of both streets was particularly rough. These are two connecting arteries with high vehicular traffic and intervening was absolutely necessary considering the danger both for the transit of vehicles, especially two-wheeled vehicles, and for pedestrians, considering that there are various businesses and homes in the area.
The mayor of Acireale, Roberto Barbagallo, underlined:
The area has been the subject of several reports from citizens and several inspections by the offices. Over the years, small routine maintenance interventions have been carried out on the most dangerous potholes, but we could not continue with patching.”
The statement from the councilor for public works of Acireale Salvo Licciardello:
“Attention remains high on the state of health of our roads, we continue with the many interventions already planned to resurface the road. Specifically, the project for the maintenance works of the roadway in via Montale and a stretch of via Kennedy in the Technical Area, led by Andrea Giudice, is drawn up by the technical instructor Anna Maria Liotta and involves scarification and bituminization for an amount of approximately 15 thousand euros. Considering that there are many roads that require extraordinary maintenance, the hope remains that by the end of the year there will be the necessary financial availability to continue with the necessary interventions”.
The local police, led by Commander Alfio Licciardello, are working on site to manage the necessary changes to the road system. Councilor Giuseppe Vasta underlines that the intervention of the agents was fundamental in allowing access to the city centre, despite the inevitable inconveniences.
Please note that to allow the execution of the works today, 27 June, and tomorrow 28 June from 05:00 to 21:00, the following has been established:
Prohibition on parking with removal and circulation (except residents) in Via Eugenio Montale and Via Kennedy (section between numbers 62 and 56/S);
No parking with removal in Corso Savoia (section C. Italia/Via E. Montale);
Two-way traffic in Corso Savoia (C. Italia/Via E. Montale section);
Reversal of the direction of travel of the stretch of Corso Italia between Via Kennedy and Corso Savoia, which is currently taking on an East/West direction.
Vehicles coming from Corso Italia Alto heading towards Piazza Indirizzo, at the intersection with Via Kennedy, will have the obligation to turn right and continue traveling towards Via Marchese di Sangiuliano.
