She was leaving her house in her car when she was approached by a man who asked her for directions. The woman, seeing him in difficulty, offered to accompany him but during the journey the man, with skill, managed to remove her wallet from her bag, containing only documents and the ATM card, which immediately after the theft the man used illicitly in a tobacconist in the city.
The investigations carried out by the Carabinieri of the Reggio Emilia Santa Croce station, following the complaint presented by the victim, made it possible to trace and identify the alleged perpetrator of the theft of the wallet and the alleged fraudulent use of the ATM. For these reasons, on charges of complicit theft and improper use of payment instruments other than cash, the Carabinieri reported a 38-year-old Albanian resident in the city to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The origin of the events dates back to the morning of April 29th, when the victim, a 70-year-old from Reggio Emilia, left the house for some errands. As soon as she left the gate in her car she was stopped by a man who asked her for road information. The unfortunate woman, seeing him in difficulty, decided to offer him a ride and then leave him at his destination. Shortly afterwards the woman realized that during her journey the man had stolen her wallet containing her personal documents and the ATM with which she immediately made two illegal transactions in a nearby tobacconist’s shop after the theft. The robbed woman then showed up at the police station in Via Adua to report the theft and the subsequent improper use of the ATM. Once the complaint was formalized, the military began the investigation, proceeding to analyze the video surveillance system. Through further investigative investigations, the Carabinieri acquired elements of alleged responsibility towards the man, who was therefore reported in a state of freedom to the Reggio Prosecutor’s Office.
The proceeding, in the preliminary investigation phase, will continue with the usual investigative investigations for the purpose of evaluations and determinations inherent to the exercise of criminal action.
