CERVETERI – The Etruscan outskirts are still burning. The fire that broke out in Cerveteri in via del Lentisco is the seventh this month. For the umpteenth time, bales of hay, a cane field and a large area of Mediterranean scrubland went up in flames. The firefighters from the Cerenova barracks and three crews from the anti-forest fire department of the municipal civil protection also arrived on site, with the 10,000-liter tanker truck also involved. For safety, the intervention of the Carabinieri from the local station in via Pertini was also recorded. Fortunately, there were no injuries or damage to property or agricultural structures, as happened last week in via Migliorie Passo di Palo, another external area of the city. The residents were not even evacuated from their homes. The military are investigating together with the firefighters from via Fontana Morella in the hope of finding some traces. There is a strong suspicion that they could be arsonists who had already gone into action in the first days of June between San Paolo and via della Porazzeta. The situation is rather worrying, as confirmed in recent days by the head of Etruscan civil protection, Renato Bisegni. For the 2024 Forest Fire Campaign, the Region has allocated approximately 8 million euros as foreseen by the latest plan for forecasting, prevention and active fight against forest fires and Cerveteri is among the municipalities that will benefit from it with the increase in men and means to manage further raids in a summer that promises to be hellish and not only because of the boiling temperatures of these days. The population fears further events where there are illegal landfills. If piles of dirt, plastic and garbage were to burn, the environment would suffer.
